Rolex introduced an unexpected version of its Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II characterised by a green and black bezel and, more importantly, by the crown and its guards positioned on the left side of the case.

Just like the crown, the date aperture and the Cyclops lens fitting the antireflective sapphire crystal have also moved and appear at 9 o'clock. This required several technical adjustments in terms of the movement and the Superlative Chronometer certification, for which the protocol, as well as some of the final tests, had to be adapted.

We believe that leaving the date aperture and Cyclops lens at 3 o'clock - like in the 1959 GMT-Master ref. 6542 pictured below - would have have offered a more balanced result.

Thanks to the traditional hour, minute and seconds hands, the additional 24-hour hand, and the rotatable bezel, it is possible to read the time in two time zones at once: either the local time and a reference time, or the local time and another time zone as desired. The date, shown at 3 o'clock, is synchronized with the local time display.
